Gerd Luedemann
Luedemann (Jesus, 26) identifies the logion ("the awakening call") as coming from the tradition (as distinct from the author of the gospel?). It is not part of the original form of the parable of the sower, which Luedemann accepts as deriving from Jesus. He notes that it is "attached to a great deal of varied material."
John P. Meier
Meier notes (Marginal Jew II,156) notes that the author of Matthew takes over this saying from Mark 4:9,23. In addition to its parallel occurence in matt 13:9, it occurs at Matt 11:15 and Matt 13:43. Meier offers no judgment on its historical value, either as an isolated saying or in its Markan location.
